Care For Generation 2 Fiddle / Bow Knives with Stainless Steel Blades
This page is dedicated to care instructions and product information for your handmade fiddle knife.
These 1st Generation fiddle knives are intended for slicing bread only.
Cleaning Instructions:
Since your fiddle knife / Bow Knife is intended to cut into bread only, you should be able to keep your knife relatively clean. If needed, use a damp paper towel, washcloth or kitchen towel to carefully wipe the blade to remove any residue. It is extremely important to make sure the blade and wood are completely dry once you mare satisfied with your cleaning.
Never put your knife in the dishwasher or have it submerged in water for any period of time, or left undried after washing -that kind of treatment will destroy your fiddle knife.
The blade is made of flexible steel that is not a higher carbon stainless and may tarnish if left wet after washing.
The hardwood is conditioned only with food grade butcher block oil, periodic re-oiling of the hardwood may be needed over time. We suggest Howard’s Butcher Block Conditioner or any other food safe wood oil.
Fiddle Knife Construction / Material Information:
The blades are made from food safe butcher’s circular band saw blades with heat treated serrated blade tips to maintain a sharp edge. The blades are cut into 10″ sections and attached to the fiddle with stainless steel furniture screws. The blades are flexible to prevent breakage but since they are not a high carbon steel, they may rust over time if not properly cared for or left in damp situations for prolonged periods of time without being toughly dried off.
The fiddle knife’s hardwood furniture is conditioned with Howard’s Butcher Block Conditioner (Periodic re-oiling may be needed over time)
Deluxe Fiddle Knives / Bow Knives have accented hardwood stripe inlays in the handle or two brass pins for additional strength in the laminated handle which also doubles for extra fancy flair 😉
The fiddle knife sheath is made of cedar.
Fiddle knife lanyard and sheath twine is made of sustainable hemp.
